The God Delusion: part 4 (Evolution)
The next interesting subject pertaining to the existence of God is the evolution of life, and the eventual appearance of our species, the Homo Sapiens on the scene. The arguments about the Creation of the Universe are by nature pretty speculative, with little evidence to work with, and both sides of the debates "grasping at straws", mostly philosophy and humor to guide us thru. To the contrary, the argument from evolution is extremely strong with massive evidence massive evidence supporting Darwinian theory, and the religious side still "grasping at straws", because they got nothing left to do but to fill the rapidly shrinking gaps.
The evidence for evolution and natural selection is overwhelming. When one studies evolution in depth, it has a sobering demystifying effect, because the theory describes the evidence so convincingly. While the theory of evolution has nothing to say about God himself directly, it moves Him significantly to the sidelines, leaving very little room for his divine intervention.
It is a fact worth noting that evolutionary biologists happen to be some of the least religious people on earth, no more than 6% of them believing in a personal God. See survey results here, and a video summarizing the conclusions here.
My opponent describes a position.
Mutation, yes, but also recombination!!
