a really old post, Greater Anthropology

In my mind, the social sciences are inextricably linked. There is a strong connection between our biological and cultural evolution, human nature, the state of the economy, political structures in a society. All of the above contribute to well-being or misery of people on scales from individual to society as a whole. This can be examined under the framework of Greater Anthropology. Studying primate evolution, for example provides good insight into what precisely is part of human nature, and what is an anomaly. We can observe high degrees of territorialism and extreme violence in chimpanzee societies, while gorillas practice polygamy and are relatively peaceful.

I am also of the opinion that we, as a species have largely gone beyond biological constraints characteristic of natural selection, which got us where we are. At this point different rules apply.
